Finish matters as much as colour. Matte and gloss paints behave differently on walls, especially under real-life conditions.
Matte (or low-sheen) finishes are great at hiding small imperfections—tiny cracks, uneven patches, old repairs. They give a soft, elegant look and work well in living rooms and bedrooms. The downside: they can be slightly harder to wipe clean, depending on the product.
Satin or eggshell finishes sit in the middle. They have a gentle sheen, are more washable, and are good for hallways, kids’ rooms and general-use spaces.
High gloss is very reflective and shows every bump and patch, so it’s rarely used on large wall areas. However, it’s excellent for doors, trims and some furniture, where you want a sharper, more durable finish that’s easy to wipe.
In kitchens and bathrooms, a washable, moisture-resistant finish—often a soft sheen—is practical. It helps you deal with splashes and humidity.
Choosing the right finish means thinking about cleaning, light behaviour and how perfect your walls truly are.
